Why You Should Care about Independent Cinema

When you think about movies, one of the first things that comes to mind might Terminator Genisys or Jurassic World. But if you want to challenge your mind while having fun, there’s nothing like sitting down and watching a good indie flick, if for no other reason than to get a good, original story.

A clear view into a director’s vision

You see, independent cinema is more character driven and the director has almost total control over his vision, and their names are very recognizable. For example, you might have heard of Woody Allen, who has made incredible films with his most recent muse, Scarlet Johansson, who has done practically everything from Ghost World to Marvel’s Avengers movies.

And that is what really defines Indie films, most directors have a signature shot, style o trademark that can be seen in almost all of their work. For example, director Wes Anderson, creator of The Grand Budapest Hotel always uses symmetry in his films. And almost every director inserts their own signature to their movies.

It can define an entire genre

Alfred Hitchcock, basically, defined the modern horror genre, with masterpieces like Psycho, The Birds and Dial M for Murder. As a matter of fact, he inspired a new generation of thought creating suspense that has inspired a whole generation of filmmakers.

This years It Follows was a surprise horror hit because it shows little to no violence, blood or nudity. Also, it had a surprisingly low budget and still manages to give you goosebumps, why? Good story telling for sure, and directed in a way very reminiscent of Hitchcock’s work.

You get really interesting stories

Ryan Gosling is best known for being a Hollywood heartthrob, but did you know he directed Lost River? That’s right, directed, and pretty well, he gives a truly unique story about life in Detroit from the point of view of one of the last families living in an abandoned neighborhood, while also giving all sorts of shocking and artistic images throughout the film.

Many famous actors try independent films at least a couple of times. In fact, some directors as well as A list stars like Jennifer Aniston started their careers in indie films.

And finally, the best reason to start paying attention to independent cinema is that you get to enjoy an original story, that means no remakes or sequels that rehash the same thing over and over again. Plus, supporting your favorite actors and directors will get them to make even more awesome movies.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Are Nearly Upon Us

Earth’s mightiest warriors are back in less than a week and we are all freaking out about it. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been of the biggest movie franchises in recent years, or decades, I think there has never been anything quite like it. A series of Marvel super heroe movies being released almost yearly and to critical acclaim is almost, if not, genius. Seems hard to believe that it all began with the Iron Man movie, starring Robert Downey Jr, a movie that did better than anyone thought possible and made the MCU a reality. The MCU began in 2008, with Iron Man, and here we are, 2015, tons of Marvel movies after and the MCU shows no sings of stopping.

The Avengers

Upon us the second biggest MCU release after the first Avengers movie, which is of course Avengers 2: Age of Ultron. Our favourite heroes unite once again to battle the newest threat to the world, Ultron. Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and newcomers Scarlett Witch and Quicksilver must work together in order to stop Ultron, a mistake made by Tony Stark. A failed experiment by Stark comes back to haunt him and he will need the aid of the Avengers.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron

Just when the team thought their adventures ended when they ended the evil plan of Thor’s brother, Loki, they are summoned once again to stop the aritificial intelligence Ultron. Ultron, played by James Spader, renowned actor currently the leading man in the NBC show The Blacklist, does an amazing job in bringing life into the character. James Spader may only provide his voice and facial expressions to the newest threat to the world, but he does an amazing job to it, no one else could deliver Ultron’s lines with such mallicious intent without coming out as cheap or tacky,

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be the movie that ends the second chapter in the MCU and will probably have some dire consequences that most likely fuel the fire for the upcoming movie Captain America: Civil War, which we all know is one of the greatest story lines in Marvel History.

Chapter three in the MCU will begin with the movie Ant Man, starring Paul Rudd, which also looks amazing and a strong start to a new franchise on a super heroe.

Let’s not forget that the MCU does not only consist of movies. While waiting for Avengers: Age of Ultron, you can ease your Marvel cravings by watching the newest Netflix Marvel show based on everyone’s favourite blind lawyer vigilante, Daredevil.

The number of super heroes are just getting bigger and bigger, and with the newest additions from Avengers 2, Quicksilver, The Scarlett With and the mysterious Vision, we can expect the upcoming Captain America to be just as awesome as Avengers 2, or even greater.

Once thing is for sure, on May the first, when Avengers 2 hits theathers you will fine no one on the streets during the premiere because everyone will be cramped inside a movie theather giggling like a school girl while watching their favourite heroes kicking some evil butts.
